From dark pony tails to full bodied voluminous buns, women have always favoured versatile hairstyles. Unfortunately, hair tends to become thin and coarse with the natural effects of aging. Furthermore, our skin sags as elasticity levels dwindle in aging scalps. So pick up the slack ladies, and observe Komachi, the hair cult’s dos and don’ts for hair and beauty wellness now!
Anti-aging Hair Care DOs:
1. Shampoo should function just as a… shampoo: Stay away from multi-purpose shampoos. The only shampoos you should consider are those that have been designed to focus on cleansing your hair.
Just as you would take care to rinse all traces of dish-washing detergent off your dishes, do the same for your hair. Failure to rinse shampoo thoroughly from your hair will result in itch and dandruff, which in turn speeds up the aging process!
2. Nutritional Care for Hair Roots and Scalp: Nutritional care products for the scalp are only effective when they are left on the hair for some time. Typically, these products contain ingredients such as amino acids and vitamins which comprise molecules small enough to be absorbed by our scalp and hair.
3. The secret to soft silky hair: Hair conditioner usually contains silicon, which gives the hair a smooth, silky texture. However, when applied to the scalp, it results in pore blockages which will result in irritation and sensitivity problems. Hence, hair conditioners should only be used on hair ends to avoid burden to the scalp!
4. Repairing damaged hair: Practically every woman has undergone salon hair treatment to attain smooth and silky hair, only to find the effects wear off two days later! To prolong the effects of the treatment, we advise that you massage your head before applying the treatment. The stimulation of the scalp will speed up absorption of treatment products. Finally, always rinse with cold water briefly, as leaving a little residue will encourage continual absorption of treatment goodness!
Anti-aging Hair Care DON’Ts:
1. The peril of alkaline shampoos: If you have an oily scalp, avoid using shampoos with high alkaline levels. You may not know this, but shampoos with strong cleansing power also dissolve hair protein, resulting in drier hair. Our scalp reacts by producing more oil, and a vicious cycle is born.
2. Avoid sticky styling products: Regardless of which type of styling products you use never choose one that feels too sticky. Besides holding your hairdo in place, it will collect all sorts of grime and dust onto your hair.
3. Don’t Chemical-Treat your hair too often: The recommended number of times to colour and perm your hair is not more than three times in a year, with a minimum of a week’s rest before the next chemical treatment. When you exceed the prescribed limit, you inevitably cause irreparable damage to your hair follicles. It is important to take care of your hair follicles because they act as a passage way to the external environment. Damage to hair follicles will result long-term hair loss!
4. 100% natural doesn’t equate to 100% goodness: Despite the marketing gimmicks for “100% natural plant extracts” hair dye, such as the Indian henna colour dye, such products don’t necessary make for risk-free beauty. Users should be aware that chemicals are bound to be used when these products are made commercially, despite its claims. In fact, such products can actually cause more harm than good. Instead, users should take care that products are obtained from established companies. Most importantly, never allow colour dyes to touch your scalp or skin when colouring your hair!
